Chrissie Iles Inside Out: Expanded Cinema and It's Relationship to the Gallery in the 1970s

The expanded cinema experiments of the 1970s occupy a complex, overlapping position. Part of the conceptual, performance and process-based art practices of that period, expanded cinema is also rooted in the cinematic experiments in film that took place in the 1920s. This paper examines the relationship between these two histories, and it's implications for both art and film.
